Business vehicle insurance

Frequently asked questions

What type of business vehicle insurance policy do I need?

Aviva offer both fully comprehensive and third party, fire & theft insurance policies, tailored for private and business users. The vehicles can be added to an existing MultiCar policy or you can take out a new policy to place up to 5 cars and vans on the same policy. Vehicles owned by members of your immediate family residing at your address can also be insured on the same policy.

Private cover: if you are the registered keeper of your vehicle and use it purely for social purposes or commuting to and from work, then this is the option for you. Cover is available for yourself as the policyholder and up to four additional drivers on each vehicle.

Company cover: available for both sole traders and corporate clients. The policyholder does not necessarily need to be listed as a driver on the policy and you can specify cover for up to four named drivers. Company owned and privately owned vehicles cannot be mixed on the same policy. Also note Aviva Direct do not insure vehicles used to carry goods for hire and reward, such as courier and parcel delivery risks.

Can I cover more than one business vehicle with Aviva Direct?

Yes you can cover up to 5 vehicles on the same policy and these can be a combination of cars and vans. We don't offer cover for larger fleets.

Would I be covered to drive my van abroad on this policy?

Aviva business vehicle insurance automatically covers you to drive in any European Union countries, to the minimum level of insurance required (usually the equivalent of UK third party only cover).

If you are an individual or a sole trader and you have comprehensive cover you can upgrade your business vehicle insurance policy to include foreign use cover, which matches your policy cover level whilst driving abroad on individual trips. Foreign use upgrade is not available to firms.

Which kind of business use do I need to include on my quote?

If you drive your van to and from work and transport business related goods such as your own tools, please select "Business Use." This cover is ideal for professions such as plumbers, decorators, window cleaners or florists as there is no cover for loss of, or damage to any goods being carried.

Aviva Direct no longer offers cover for "Carriage of Goods for Hire & Reward".

Social, domestic and pleasure will cover your vehicle for personal usage only (excludes using your vehicle in conjunction with your occupation/trade).

Social, domestic, pleasure and commuting will cover your vehicle whilst travelling to and from a single place of work.
