If your vehicle is lost, stolen or damaged, we will:

  • Pay for your vehicle to be repaired; or
  • Replace your vehicle; or
  • Pay you a cash amount equal to the loss or damage.

We may decide to use suitable parts or accessories not supplied by the original manufacturer.

The same cover also applies to:

  • Accessories.
  • Spare parts and components for your vehicle while these are in or on your vehicle or while in your private garage.

The maximum amount we will pay for accessories is shown in your schedule.

The most we will pay will be the market value of your vehicle at the time of the loss. If we know that your vehicle is still being paid for under a hire purchase or leasing agreement we will pay any claim to the owner described in that agreement. Our liability under this section will then end for that claim.

New vehicle replacement tick icon cross icon n/a

We will replace your vehicle with a new vehicle of the same make, model and specification (if one is available in the UK) if, within 12 months of the main policyholder (principal policyholder), main drivers of each vehicle (eg vehicle policyholder) or a partner buying your vehicle from new:

  • Any repair cost or damage in respect of any one claim covered by the policy is more than 60% of the vehicle's UK list price (including vehicle tax and VAT) when your vehicle was purchased, or
  • Your vehicle is stolen and not recovered.

We will only replace your vehicle if the main policyholder (principal policyholder), main drivers of each vehicle (eg vehicle policyholder) or a partner:

  • Purchases it under a hire purchase agreement or other type of agreement where ownership passes to the main policyholder (principal policyholder), main drivers of each vehicle (eg vehicle policyholder) or a partner and the Financing Company agrees, and
  • The main policyholder (principal policyholder), main drivers (vehicle policyholders) or a partner become the first registered keeper of your vehicle, or the second registered keeper of your vehicle where your vehicle has been pre registered in the name of the manufacturer or supplying dealer, provided at the time of purchase the mileage was less than 250 miles.

Vehicles sold as 'ex demonstrators' and 'nearly new' do not qualify for replacement under this section.

Any audio equipment in your vehicle is covered as part of your vehicle's accessories (see section on loss, theft of, or damage to your vehicle).

Glass in your vehicle's windscreen, windows or sunroof tick icon cross icon n/a

We will pay for the replacement or repair of the glass in your vehicle's windscreen, sunroof or windows if it is lost or damaged or the bodywork of your vehicle suffers scratches arising solely from the breakage of glass. The most we will pay will be the market value of your vehicle at the time of the loss. We may use suitable parts not supplied by the original manufacturer.

You must telephone our claims helpline before any work is carried out. We will direct you to an approved repairer. If the repairer chosen to replace your glass is not one of our approved repairers, we will apply a limit to the amount we will contribute as shown in your schedule.

The excess amount which must be paid for any replacement or repair, is shown in your schedule.

A claim solely under this section will not affect your no claim discount.

Accident transport/vehicle recovery tick icon triangle icon n/a

Within the set geographical boundaries we can arrange for the protection and removal of your vehicle. In the event of an incident, please ring our Claims Helpline and we will arrange for the following:

  • Someone to come out and help. If your vehicle cannot be made roadworthy immediately it will be taken to our nearest approved repairer. Your vehicle can be taken to a repairer of your choice if this is nearer, but this may lead to delays in arranging the repairs to your vehicle. An additional excess will apply in addition to any other excesses under this policy if the repairer chosen is not one of our approved repairers. We do not provide a courtesy vehicle if the repairer chosen is not one of our approved repairers, even if the courtesy vehicle option is shown in your schedule.
  • Transport home or completion of journey for the driver and passengers.
  • The onward transmission of any messages on your behalf.
  • Delivery of your vehicle back to your address in the geographical boundaries after the repairs have been carried out.

In providing accident recovery assistance we will use our reasonable care and skill when providing the service. We can, however, cancel services or refuse to provide them if, in our opinion, the demands made are excessive, unreasonable or impractical.

Medical expenses tick icon cross icon Up to £100 for each insured person

If any people in your vehicle are injured as a direct result of your vehicle being involved in an accident, we will pay for:

  • The medical expenses arising in connection with that accident. The most we will pay for each injured person is shown in your schedule.
  • One driver confidence session of a maximum of one hour with a professional driving instructor we have appointed, for the person driving your vehicle at the time of the accident.

The cover under this section applies irrespective of fault.

Exclusions to Section 4
We will not pay for any physiotherapy treatment.

Emergency medical treatment tick icon tick icon n/a

We will reimburse any person using your vehicle for payments made under the Road Traffic Acts for emergency medical treatment.

Personal belongings kept in your vehicle tick icon cross icon £150

We will pay the main policyholder (principal policyholder) or the main drivers of each vehicle (eg vehicle policyholder) (or, at their request, the owner) for loss of or damage to personal belongings caused by fire, theft or accidental means while the personal belongings are in or on your vehicle.

The maximum amount payable for any one incident is shown in your schedule. A claim can only be made under this section when also making a valid claim which is accepted under Section 1 - Loss of or damage to your vehicle.

Exclusions to Section 6
We will not pay for:

  1. Money, stamps, tickets, documents or securities (such as share and premium bond certificates).
  2. Goods or samples carried in connection with any trade or business.
  3. Tools.
Replacement locks for your vehicle tick icon cross icon n/a

If your ignition keys are lost or stolen we will pay the cost of replacing the:

  • Affected locks, lock transmitter and central locking interface, affected parts of the alarm and/or immobiliser, provided that it can be established to our reasonable satisfaction that the identity or garaging address of your vehicle is known to any person who is in possession of your ignition keys and the value of the claim does not exceed the market value of your vehicle.

In the event of any claim under this section, the courtesy vehicle and hire vehicle benefits under Section 1 - Loss of or damage to your vehicle, will apply providing your schedule shows courtesy vehicle cover was selected.

Your no claim discount will not be affected and no excess is applicable when making a claim under this section.

NCD for named drivers tick icon cross icon n/a

If you have any named drivers on your policy who have not earned their own no claim discount and they maintain a claim free record for at least one year, then they can also build up no claim discount in their own name for use on a future Aviva policy.

This only applies to drivers who have been named on an Aviva policy when they take out an Aviva car insurance policy in their own name.

Driving other vehicles benefit tick icon cross icon n/a

We will insure the main driver (vehicle policyholder) providing:

  • The vehicle does not belong to that person or is not hired to that person under a hire purchase agreement.
  • The main driver (vehicle policyholder) is driving the vehicle with the owner's express consent.
  • The main driver (vehicle policyholder) still has your vehicle and it has not been damaged beyond cost effective repair.
  • The main driver (vehicle policyholder) is aged 25 or above at inception or renewal of this policy.
  • The Certificate of Motor Insurance indicates that the other main driver can drive such a vehicle.

Driving other vehicles cover is not available for named drivers, firms or main policyholders (principal policyholders) where they are not also named as a main user of your vehicle (eg Another policyholder).

Child seat cover tick icon cross icon £100 per seat

If child seat(s) are fitted in your vehicle and your vehicle is involved in an accident or damaged following fire or theft, we will pay an amount as shown in your schedule per child seat towards the cost of a replacement even if there is no apparent damage. A claim can only be made under this section when also making a valid claim which is accepted under Section 1 - Loss of or damage to your vehicle.

For the purposes of this section, tools means;

  • Non powered hand tools for domestic DIY, gardening or vehicle maintenance activities, or
  • Where your vehicle is insured for business use as shown in your schedule, tools of trade reasonably associated with your declared occupation.

We will pay for loss of or damage to tools caused by fire, theft or accidental means while they are in your vehicle. The maximum amount payable for any one incident is shown in your schedule. A claim can only be made under this section when also making a valid claim which is accepted under Section 1 - Loss of or damage to your vehicle.

Exclusions to Section 8
We will not pay for:

  1. Goods or samples, stock and materials.
  2. Personal belongings.
  3. Accessories.
  4. Loss or damage arising from theft not involving forcible entry to your vehicle.
  5. Loss or damage if your vehicle is an open backed vehicle unless the tools are contained within a locked secure tool chest which is permanently attached to the chassis.
Uninsured driver promise tick icon cross icon n/a

If you're hit by an uninsured driver and it wasn't your fault your no claim discount won't be lost - you may even be able to recover your excess! You will need to tell us the registration number/make/model of the vehicle that hit you, along with the driver's details.

Aviva offer a range of breakdown cover options to suit your needs, all backed by the expertise of RAC:

Rescue only breakdown cover is available for breakdowns occurring in the United Kingdom. It can be upgraded to more comprehensive cover levels, and provides the following:

  • A Rescue from Aviva patrol, an RAC patrol, or a contractor to assist you and provide labour at the roadside.

If we are unable to repair the vehicle within a reasonable time or if our patrolman considers the repairs are unwise:

  • We will transport your vehicle to a destination of your choice within 10 miles, or to the nearest garage.
  • We will transport you and up to seven passengers to the destination above. (If there are more than five people this may require two separate vehicles. An adult from the covered vehicle must accompany any children).
  • If you need to leave your vehicle at a garage we will pay for taxi fares for up to 20 miles (a receipt must be obtained).

Rescue from Aviva and recovery breakdown cover offers the same service as rescue only cover with the following additional benefits if we cannot get your vehicle repaired locally within a reasonable time:

  • We will transport your vehicle home or deliver it to a single address anywhere in the United Kingdom
  • We will transport you and up to seven passengers to the above chosen destination. (If there are more than five people this may require two separate vehicles. An adult from the covered vehicle must accompany any children)
  • The above Recovery service is also available should you be taken ill and be unable to continue your journey if you have no passengers who can legally drive the vehicle.

Recovery is available for incidents which occur in the United Kingdom.

Rescue, recovery & at home offers all the benefits of rescue and recovery with the added peace of mind that this cover is available for any incidents that occur at or within a quarter of a mile of your home (or where the vehicle is normally kept).

At home breakdown cover is available within the United Kingdom only.

Rescue, recovery, at home & onward travel cover is the best package available with Aviva insurance. It provides everything included in the at home option along with one of the following extra benefits in the event that we cannot get your vehicle repaired locally or that you are unfit to drive:

  • Hotel accommodation
  • Onward travel benefits must be requested at the time of breakdown and cannot be arranged later.
  • Onward travel breakdown cover is available within the United Kingdom only.

Guaranteed no claim discount pound icon cross icon 5 or more years NCD only

Guaranteed no claim discount (NCD) is only available with comprehensive cover and protects your no-claim discount for the life of your policy. This means that however many claims you have you will never lose your hard earned no claim discount. In addition your premium will never be increased as a direct result of any claims and the policy cannot be cancelled as a direct result of multiple claims.

You can benefit from this additional peace of mind if:

  • You have at least 5 years earned no claim discount
  • Have selected a minimum of £250 voluntary excess
  • All drivers are aged 21 or over
  • No driver has had any at fault claims in the last 3 years

We may ask you to provide proof of your no claim discount at any stage during the period of your insurance. This will usually take the form of a no claim discount entitlement letter on headed paper from your previous insurance company. We can also accept renewal invite letters/emails as proof of NCD.

Protected no claim discount pound icon pound icon 3 or more years no claim discount (comp), 4+ years (TPFT)

What's covered - protected no claim discount (NCD) with 3 years earned no claim discount

  • Protected no claim discount is available with comprehensive and third party, fire and theft for customers with 3 or more years earned NCD. If you have 3 years earned no claim discount, protected no claim discount allows you to have one at fault claim before your no claim discount is affected.
  • To be eligible you must have at least 3 years earned no claim discount, be aged 21 or over and no driver has had any at fault claims in the last 3 years.

What's covered - protected no claim discount (NCD) with 4 or more years earned no claim discount

  • Available with both comprehensive and third party, fire & theft cover: if you have 4 or more years earned NCD, protected NCD allows you to have up to 2 at fault claims in a 3 year period before you lose any NCD.
  • To be eligible you must have at least 4 years earned NCD, be 21 or over and no driver has had any at fault claims in the last 2 years.

(Please note if any driver has had one at fault claim in the last 2 years you can still protect your NCD but it will only be protected against 1 at fault claim in any 3 year period)

  • And we'll cover you for up to £50,000 in legal costs for you, your passengers or an authorised driver, to pursue your case after a motor accident.
  • We also provide a 24-hour legal helpline, which gives you free confidential legal advice from an expert, so all you pay for is the phone call.
  • Legal assistance is also available to recover any uninsured losses, such as your policy excess, medical fees or damages for injury after a motor accident
Courtesy car - enhanced pound icon cross icon n/a

Only available with comprehensive cover, you have the option to select an enhanced courtesy car if your vehicle is involved in a claim. We recognise that not all people's needs are the same, and as a result we're offering the option of a larger courtesy car.

This option is best suited to customers who already have a larger car and use it for situations like, the school run, have small children and need room for a pram, or use their car for business which may involve a lot of motorway driving. An enhanced courtesy car is typically a 5 door car with a 1.6 litre engine and room to seat 5 people.

If you select the courtesy car option, a replacement car is provided by one of our approved repairers and is available for the duration of any repairs. If your car is stolen or written off, we provide a hire car until an offer is made to settle the claim (up to a maximum of 14 days).

Your policy will automatically provide the minimum cover required to travel in most European countries: usually the equivalent of UK third party only cover.

This can be upgraded for an additional annual premium from £26.50 to give you the same cover as you have in the UK for travel within the following countries, for 6 months in any one period of insurance and no more than 90 days for any one trip.

Physiotherapy cover pound icon cross icon Up to £400 for an insured person

If you or any other person in your car is injured as a direct result of your car being involved in an accident we will pay for treatment from a chartered physiotherapist we have appointed who believes treatment will help your recovery.

Physiotherapy will end once you have recovered from your injury or the policy limit has been reached, whichever happens first.

Personal Accident pound icon cross icon We will pay out up to £40,000 during any one period of insurance. This additional cover will cease at 81 years of age.

If you or your partner suffer accidental bodily injury in direct connection with your car or getting into, out of or travelling in any other private vehicle, not belonging to you or hired to you under a hire purchase agreement, if within three months of the accident, the injury is the sole cause of:

  • Death or
  • Irrecoverable loss of sight in one or both eyes or total and permanent loss of hearing in one or both ears or
  • Loss of any limb

We will pay out a lump sum up of up to £40,000 for an individual policy and £20,000 per person for a joint policy.
