Have you underestimated how much your possessions are worth?

It's easy to lose touch with the number of valuable items you have around your home. When thinking about insurance cover you'll probably think about the obvious valuables such as jewellery and state-of-the-art technology but what about the less obvious items like clothes and shoes in the wardrobe, items stored in the attic, cellar or garage?

In our experience the top under-insured possessions are:

  • Clothing & all personal effects
  • Antiques
  • Curtains, carpets and soft furnishings
  • Collections (including wine, stamps, toys etc)
  • Electricals
  • Original works of art
  • Light fittings, including chandeliers
  • Inherited items, especially furniture and pictures
  • Items stored in Loft/Attics
  • Pictures and picture frames (which are sometimes worth more than the pictures they frame)

Many people just don't realise the value of their personal possessions.

Use our Contents calculator to total up what your possessions may be worth. It is then really important to speak to an insurance broker to see what amount of cover you need in case the worst happens.
