People looking to become fitter and healthier have been told that there are no excuses for not running.
Laura Williams, diet and fitness expert, said that anyone of any age and sporting ability can start running.
She explained those who are concerned that a new exercise regime may affect their current health or medication programme should always check with their GP first, but running was extremely accessible and user friendly.
"If your fitness levels need working on you can always intersperse jogging with walking to start with," Ms Williams stated.
One of the main advantages of running is that it is free; there are no monthly membership fees, it is just a case of putting on trainers and hitting the streets, she added.
This comes after Joanna Knight, editor of Women's Fitness, said that more people should think about exercising at home to maintain their fitness levels without spending too much money.
