Self-help: Overcoming Bedwetting

A child may be helped to overcome persistent bedwetting by using a pad and buzzer system. The pad, which can detect moisture, is placed in the bed and attached to a buzzer. When a child starts to pass urine, the buzzer is activated. The noise wakes the child, who can then get up and go to the bathroom before going back to sleep. After a few weeks, the child will wake automatically without the buzzer if he or she needs to pass urine.

Positioning the device

The moisture-sensitive pad is laid on the undersheet and the bed is made as normal. The battery-operated buzzer, which sounds when the pad gets wet, is placed in the bed or on a bedside table.
