Technique: Desensitization Therapy

Desensitization therapy may help you to overcome a phobia. With the help of relaxation exercises in weekly sessions for several months, you will face the object or circumstance that you fear. You learn to overcome your phobia by facing the focus of it in its least distressing form and gradually working towards more direct contact.

During a session

The therapist helps you to face your phobia. In this case, a picture of a spider is used as the least distressing form of exposure for someone with an intense fear of spiders.
