Treatment: Tonsillectomy and Adenoidectomy

Surgical removal of the tonsils is performed on children who have frequent episodes of tonsillitis. Enlarged adenoids may also be removed at the same time if they are causing breathing difficulties and recurrent ear problems. The operation is performed in hospital under general anaesthesia. A child should be able to return home the day after the operation, and he or she should make a full recovery in about 2 weeks.

The procedure

Surgical removal of the tonsils and adenoids is performed through the mouth under general anaesthesia.
