Features

Our Group Critical Illness cover helps employers provide financial support to employees in time of ill health. Group Critical Illness cover pays a cash lump sum on either diagnosis of a critical illness from our pre-defined list, or after an employee has survived for 14 days after undergoing a surgical procedure that we cover.

The money paid from a successful claim on a Group Critical Illness policy can be used completely at the employee’s discretion. For example, Group Critical Illness cover payment could help towards bills, pay for treatment or make adjustments to their home or lifestyle.

Listed below are the critical illnesses and surgical procedures covered by this policy.

  • Efficient payment. A lump sum of 5 x an employee’s salary, up to £500,000 gross (whichever is lower) payable 14 days after diagnosis or operation. For total permanent disability, a member must be continuously and permanently disabled for 6 months before we pay a lump sum.
  • No medical underwriting. No underwriting is required, as Group Critical Illness cover is subject to exclusions on pre-existing conditions.
  • Flexible and affordable for employers. Employers can choose whether to offer standard cover, or take out an extended policy which covers more conditions.
  • Optional cover. Employers can choose to include the employee’s husband, wife or civil partner under the policy.
  • Children’s cover. Dependants can receive cover for up to 25% of an employee’s benefit, up to a maximum of £20,000 gross (whichever is lower).

Simple to administer

There’s no medical underwriting involved with our Group Critical Illness cover. If an employee wants to make a claim, we’ll investigate if the illness existed before the policy started and then assess the claim against the policy’s conditions.

What’s covered?

When looking at the conditions included on this policy, it’s important to understand that our Group Critical Illness product doesn’t cover pre-existing conditions. Group Critical Illness cover also excludes critical illnesses or operations which are related to pre-existing conditions. For example, if an employee had a heart attack before joining the scheme, we wouldn’t pay a lump sum if they later needed coronary artery by-pass surgery.
