Underwriting

No one wants to spend valuable time filling out forms or going through underwriting processes time after time. So we’ve drawn from our experience in Group Risk to create an underwriting process that we think employers and employees will appreciate.

For example, for our Group Income Protection product, we usually start by offering a free cover limit. Our maximum free cover limit is £120,000. Under this level, there’s no need for individual medical underwriting. If selected, we will take a ‘once only’ approach. This means that, in the majority of cases, future increases in benefit won’t be subject to further underwriting.

Underwriting from Aviva

  • Reduced administration. Intrusion on businesses is kept to a minimum, as we provide a quick, clear and accountable underwriting service.
  • Tele-interviewing. Specialist staff - trained in communication skills and equipped with medical knowledge - capture essential information in telephone interviews. This means that employees don’t have to complete any complicated forms, which helps puts them at ease. This can significantly reduce cases of non-disclosure.
  • Simple processes. If an employee doesn’t choose to have a tele-interview, we use one medical declaration to capture information about work, health, lifestyle and medical history, helping us give quick decisions to employees.
  • Cover from Day One. We provide up to 90 days temporary cover during the underwriting process, excluding pre-existing conditions.

Once only underwriting

Keeping business disruption to a minimum is vital. So we usually offer a free cover limit to employers, under which there’s no need for individual medical underwriting. And if it is necessary, we can take a ‘once only’ approach.
