“Of course if the worst happens and your home is targeted by burglars you will be covered if you have home insurance cover.
Damage to the structure of your property, so to things like doors and windows and brickwork will be covered by the buildings section of your home policy.
Stolen and damaged belongings will be covered under the contents section.
But who really wants to go through the trauma of having your home invaded and your possessions taken in the first place?
So the more we can all do to help prevent our homes being targeted the better. That is why we have teamed up with Norfolk Police to show the average homeowner what they can do to help protect their property.
And given the current economic climate who knows what the coming months may hold? Home Office figures already show that burglary rates are up by 4%.*
We already see theft claims rise by
5%* when the clocks go back – the average claim is over £1000.
Games consoles, digital cameras, iPods, laptops, jewellery and bikes are all on the burglars' wish list.
The Safer Street project was funded by Aviva. But you don't have to do everything we have done - following just a few of our examples and listening to the tips from the police and former burglar Bob Turney will all help make you feel safer in your home.”
You can buy buildings insurance and contents insurance together - or separately, though there is usually a discount when you buy both together.
