Travel advice

Keeping in touch

If your friends and family know where you are, they can help if you get into difficulty!

  1. DO take your mobile phone with you and call home to let your nearest and dearest know that you're OK.
    • Set up a simple web mail account before you depart and use an Internet café to email home - postcards and letters can take a long time to reach home.
    • Use the International Poste Restante (IPR) service for receiving letters and packages while you're away. More information on IPR
  2. ALWAYS tell friends and family where you are going - if they know where you are and where you're going, they can help you in an emergency.
    • DO let them know your travel insurance details.
  3. DO contact your family or friends immediately if you get into trouble or difficulty.
    • If the difficulty is serious, contact the local police and your local British Consular Office for advice or help.
