ISAs

What is an Investment ISA?

This Investment ISA is a Stocks and Shares ISA. It enables you to invest your money in a choice of funds with different investment objectives and can be a tax-efficient way of investing, whether you’re looking for regular income or capital growth. This Investment ISA gives you the choice and flexibility to get what you want from your investments.

  • The range of funds means it appeals to a broad range of investors.
  • It can provide you with a regular income, capital growth or a mix of the two.
  • When you invest in an Investment ISA, any returns are free from UK income and capital gains tax.
  • Under the 2009/2010 tax rules, you can invest up to a maximum of £7,200 a year or £600 a month in an Investment ISA. You can keep your ISA for as long as you like but it should be regarded as a medium-to long-term investment. Remember, the value of your investment and any income from it can go down as well as up and isn't guaranteed. You may get back less than the value of your original investment and tax rules may change in future.

Features & flexibility

With an Investment ISA you can:

  • Invest for capital growth or a regular income, or a combination of both - it’s your choice;
  • Choose to receive income either monthly, quarterly or half-yearly;
  • Pay in a lump sum or make monthly payments;
  • Invest a minimum of £50 per month or a £500 lump sum;
  • Transfer an ISA from another ISA provider. If you transfer out of an existing ISA, you may have to pay exit charges.
  • Make additional one-off top up payments by cheque;
  • Choose from around 35 actively managed funds to find the level of risk and return to suit you. As a general rule, the lower the risk, the lower the return on your investment. Higher risk funds may provide a greater return but this is not guaranteed.

Is it for me?

Some of our ISA funds invest in stocks and shares which aim to provide high returns over the medium to long term. But it’s important to understand that gains and losses in such funds can be more variable than investing in lower risk funds. Investment ISAs are intended as a medium to long-term investment, so if you need easy access to your money at all times, this type of ISA may not be the best solution.

This Investment ISA has been designed to appeal to a broad range of investors - whether you’re looking for lower risk investments with lower returns or higher risk investments with the potential for higher returns. You can also choose whether you want regular income, growth or a mix of the two. Anyone aged 18 or over living in the UK can invest in an Investment ISA.
