What is a Stocks and Shares ISA?

A Stocks and Shares ISA can be a tax-efficient way of investing, whether you're looking for regular income or capital growth.

• You won't pay tax on any increase in the value of your investment or on any withdrawals.
• Your investment goes into a range of assets such as shares, property or fixed interest investments.
• In 2011/2012 tax year you can invest up to a maximum of £10,680 in a Stocks and Shares ISA.

Features and Flexibility

• The value of your investment can go down as well as up and the value is not guaranteed. You may get back less than your original investment.
• A Stocks and Shares ISA should be regarded as a medium to long-term investment.
• You can invest single and monthly payments.
• You can change the amounts of your monthly payments.
• You can stop paying into your account at any time (subject to leaving at least £500 in value to keep it open).
