Norwich Union appoints new director of property and facilities

Norwich Union has appointed a new director of property andfacilities. Mark Hughes, 46, has joined Norwich Union CentralServices (NUCS) from Amey-Lex Consortium, where he worked as asenior consultant on Private Finance Initiatives.

Having originally studied and obtained a first in civilengineering, Hughes began a career with the Army as a RoyalEngineer officer, fulfilling a succession of command and staff jobsacross four continents. He was awarded the OBE for his work inBosnia in 1997.

Hughes, who will be based in Norwich, will be responsible forthe management of property and facilities at all Norwich Unionlocations in the UK, including York, Perth and London.

Commenting on his appointment, Hughes said: “Providing theinfrastructure required to enable an organisation the size ofNorwich Union to meet its objectives is a marvellous challenge -and one to which I am particularly looking forward.

“The decision to create a centralised service modelprovides an ideal opportunity to use the skills and talents of bothour own people and contractors, to ensure that we are the‘partner of choice’ for Norwich Union’s businessunits.”

Hughes, who is married with three daughters, recently moved toNorth Norfolk. In his spare time, he enjoys gardening, reading andcreating the family’s new home.
