Hundreds of call centre staff at Norwich Union have justembarked on a project to trial a range of new flexible workinginitiatives in Sheffield, Norwich and Glasgow. This project hasbeen made possible through the Department of Trade and Industry(DTI) work-life balance challenge fund which has awarded NorwichUnion £50,000 to develop the project.
Norwich Union is a large, multi-site organisation and is lookingto identify and promote better ways of working which will benefitemployees, customers and the business. These sites have been chosenfor the pilot as they are major customer facing environments.
The aim of the pilot is to embrace work-life balance as anopportunity to gain more feedback from people and to createpriorities with more of an emphasis on achieving a better balancebetween work and home. The key objectives are to develop a betterworking culture, improve customer satisfaction and to attract andretain the best people.
Specialist employee consultants, RightCoutts, have beenappointed to support Norwich Union in developing and implementingwork-life balance policies and practices.
Nick Holmes of Norwich Union said: 'More and more people aretrying to combine work with family life. The aim of this project isto identify more flexible ways of working which will benefiteveryone involved and will help us to become an employer ofchoice.'
