- 97-year-old season ticket holder Cliffie Dann wins the adult award
- Home and away season ticket holder, Josh Coles-Rouse, wins the junior award and the honour of leading the team out against Aston Villa
Following a record number of votes, Aviva is delighted to announce the winners of this year’s adult Norwich City Fan of the Year and the first ever junior winner.
The adult award goes to 97-year-old Cliffie Dann who has been a Norwich City supporter for 88 years. Josh Coles-Rouse, 15, becomes the first junior winner for his dedication in following the Canaries both home and away.
Cliffie is a season ticket holder who meets up with friends in the 59ers lounge before every home game and enjoys a pint of beer before the match. As a Norwich City fan since the age of nine his dedication and loyalty over such a long period of time makes him a truly worthy recipient of this award.
On winning the award, Cliffie said: “This is a fantastic and unexpected honour. I’ve had a great time over the years following the Canaries, making many friends and memories along the way. I love going to the games and watching the team play. Many thanks to those who nominated and voted for me.”
Hard-working home and away season ticket holder Josh Coles-Rouse has taken on a part-time job to fund his numerous trips to see his beloved Canaries play. This season he has only missed four games and fits his job and travels around his GCSE revision. Such dedication to the cause really deserves this award and he will get the additional honour of leading the team out against Aston Villa on the final day of the 2011/12 season.
A delighted Josh said: “It’s amazing to be Aviva’s Junior Norwich City Fan of the Year. Ever since the play-off semi-final against Wolves in 2002 I’ve lived and breathed Norwich City, so to get this award is such a great honour. I love supporting the club and travelling around the country to see them play. I can’t wait to lead the team out against Aston Villa. Thank you so much all those who nominated and voted for me.”
Cliffie and Josh were chosen by the public from a group of six finalists (three adult and three junior) selected by a judging panel which included Norwich City legends Iwan Roberts and Darren Eadie*. They had the tough job of whittling down the many great fans who were nominated on www.avivancfcfanoftheyear.co.uk to the final six.
Talking about how tough the judging process was, Darren Eadie said: “It was a really difficult decision to pick just six finalists from the many great nominations. The judging panel had such a tough time and the quality of nominations shows what a fantastic set of supporters Norwich City have. Both winners are true fans of the year – it’s just a shame we could only have one winner from each category.”
As well as Josh getting the honour of leading the team out, the winners will also receive some fantastic prizes at the final game of the season against Aston Villa. These include a VIP match day experience, a personalised NCFC football shirt and a pre-match meal and trophy presentation in the Gunn Club. Also, they will get the chance to visit Norwich City’s training ground to watch the first team going through their paces in pre-season training.
The four runners up – Tim Allman (adult), Ian Mitton (adult), Emily Gibbs (junior) and Sam Smith (junior) - each receive a £50 Norwich City club shop voucher.
Paul Lambert, manager of Norwich City, said: “I will always think that these fans are really special, because they back the team to the hilt, and they get behind them home and away. That was the case in League One as well as in the Premier League, which is a great testament to them as supporters. Well done to all this season’s Fan of the Year finalists, a fantastic achievement.”
This is the fourth successive year that Aviva has run the competition with the support of Norwich City and the Community Sports Foundation.
Chris Elliott, senior sponsorship manager at Aviva, said: “With so many great Norwich City fans it was always going to be difficult to get down to just two winners. Cliffie and Josh have shown such unwavering commitment to the club, they are, undoubtedly very deserving winners. We hope they enjoy their VIP day at the Aston Villa match and their time as Aviva Norwich City Fans of the Year.
“We would also like to thank all the people who took the time to nominate and vote in this year’s awards as well as the members of the judging panel.”
