Prakesh "Crackers" Patel, 45, from Mill Hill has been awarded the title of RAC's Patrol Ambassador of the Year Award - a prestigious honour that marks him as an "elite" patrol and lands him a role as the face of the RAC for the next 12 months.
Crackers' incredibly high standards in helping RAC members, fixing their cars and getting them on the road again resulted in his success at this year's RAC Ambassador Awards held at Motor Heritage Museum, Gaydon, on 28 March.
Crackers, a lead patrol serving North London with a team of nine, has been with RAC for 24 years. This is the 11th year Crackers has been nominated; in fact Crackers is a regular nominee, attending every year since the awards began - one of only four patrols to achieve this feat.
Following the awards, Crackers said: "I'm humbled to be chosen from the 2,000 RAC patrols to receive this award. And although the award bears my name, it is the product of a real team effort. My colleagues in the RAC office and my team of patrols out on the road are some of the best in the business. I'm equally lucky to have a family that is so supportive of me.
"I love my job and really enjoy helping people when things go wrong and getting them back on the road. I also get great satisfaction leading and encouraging my team to help them achieve their potential."
"Crackers takes great pride in the service he provides to members and thoroughly deserved to win this award," said Neil Thompson, director of rescue service delivery, RAC. "He demonstrates capabilities over and above technical and mechanical expertise which is so important given some of the stressful situations all our patrols face at the roadside. He cares as much about our members as he does fixing their cars, and brings a real commitment and enthusiasm to what he does."
