Service PLC, the motoring and vehicle solutions company,announces the appointment of Alan Bowkett as non-executive Chairmanfrom 1 January 2003, succeeding Sir Trevor Chinn who retires at theend of 2002. Alan Bowkett will join the Board as Deputy Chairman on2 September 2002.
Alan Bowkett holds a portfolio of European non-executive roles,including non-executive director of the UK brewing company GreeneKing plc, where he is Chairman of the audit committee; Chairman ofthe Supervisory Board of Acordis BV, a Netherlands-based chemicaland man-made fibres business; Chairman of Metzeler APS SA, aBenelux-based automotive components supplier; and European Adviserto private equity fund CVC Capital Partners.
Over the course of his career, Alan has held a number of seniorexecutive positions, including Chief Executive of Berisford Plc,the food service equipment business; Chief Executive of RHPBearings Ltd, the ball bearings manufacturer; and Chief Executiveof Boulton and Paul plc, the building products business.

Aged 51, Alan Bowkett is married with five children. He holds a BScin Economics from University College London and an MBA from LondonBusiness School.
He began his career as a researcher at the Economist IntelligenceUnit and then worked for Lex as Corporate Planning Manager from1977 to 1982.
His first Chief Executive role was for the building productscompany Boulton & Paul Plc; then for the ball bearingmanufacturer RHP Bearings Ltd; and then the food service equipmentbusiness Berisford Plc.
Since 1993 he has been a non-executive director of a number ofEuropean companies, including the UK brewing company Greene Kingplc, (where he is Chairman of the audit committee); Acordis BV, aNetherlands-based chemical and man-made fibres business; andMetzeler APS SA, a Benelux-based automotive business. Alan is afellow of the University of East Anglia and an organicfarmer.
Sir Trevor Chinn, aged 66, was appointed to the Board of LexService PLC in 1959, became Managing Director in 1968 and Chairmanin 1973. In addition he was Chief Executive from 1973 to 1996. SirTrevor is Vice Chairman of the Commission for Integrated Transport,which was set up to advise the government on the implementation ofthe Transport White Paper published in 1998. He is also Chairman ofthe Motorists' Forum which consults with government on issuesaffecting motorists.
