Norwich Union is introducing a factsheet forcustomers that highlights the importance of completing insuranceapplication forms accurately. The aim is to reduce the number ofcustomer claims that are rejected as a result of non-disclosure.From 23 June, Norwich Union will include the sheet in allinformation packs for protection products.
The factsheet advises customers on completing forms and stressesthe need for people to disclose all the information that isrequested. It also highlights the fact that an insurer can onlyprovide cover where it knows all the facts about the person theyare insuring.
Tony Jupp, chief underwriter at Norwich Union, said: “Mostpeople buy insurance products to protect them and their family inthe event of something unforeseen happening. However, an insurercan provide cover for people only where they have all theinformation they asked for on the application form.
“With the introduction of this information sheet, we areunderlining the importance of completing application formscarefully. Even now, one-in-five* applicants think that we willautomatically contact their doctor to ask for medical informationbut this simply isn’t the case.
“People need to take their time when reading insuranceapplication forms and complete them very carefully. We want to beable to help people should they make a claim, but to do this weneed them to complete their application forms fully, truthfully andaccurately”.
