Aviva announces change to executive director responsibilities

Aviva plc (“Aviva”), the savings,investment and insurance group, announces today that, as a resultof the proposed acquisition of AmerUs Group Co in the USA whichwill increase the size of the group’s internationaloperations significantly, Philip Scott, executive director, AvivaInternational, will, from 1 September 2006, focus on the furtherdevelopment of Aviva’s businesses in North America and AsiaPacific. He will also retain responsibility for the world-wideoperations of Morley Fund Management.

Philip’s responsibility for Aviva’scontinental European operations will be transferred to TidjaneThiam, currently managing director, Aviva International, who willbecome chief executive Aviva Europe, and will join Aviva’sexecutive committee.

Richard Harvey, group chief executive of Avivaplc, said: “Philip’s new role reflects the group'sdetermination to capitalise on the significant growth opportunityprovided by the recently announced AmerUs acquisition and thelonger term potential of Asia. Tidjane’s internationalexperience and strategic insight will be important qualities in theleadership of our European operations.”

Appointed to the Aviva plc board inMay 2000. Joined Norwich Union in 1973 and held a number of seniorpositions before joining the board of Norwich Union in 1993. Philipis a former chief executive and executive chairman of Norwich UnionLife (Aviva’s life assurance and long-term savings businessin the UK).

Joined Aviva plc in 2002 as groupstrategy and development director from McKinsey & Company(Paris) where he was a partner. Appointed managing director ofAviva International in January 2006. Between 1994 and 1999, Tidjanewent back to the Ivory Coast, where he was successively chiefexecutive officer of the National Bureau for Technical Studies andDevelopment, and Minister for Development. He began his career as aconsultant with McKinsey & Company in Paris, from 1988 to1994.

In 1999, Tidjane was named with Gordon Brown as a member of theforum’s ‘Dream Cabinet’ by the World EconomicForum in Davos. Tidjane is a member of the Commission for Africa,established by UK Prime Minister Tony Blair.
