RAC has secured a seven-year deal to provide roadside assistanceto Motability - Europe's largest vehicle fleet.
The contract to 2014 was agreed after a three-month, competitivetender process, which extends the existing nine-year relationshipbetween RAC and Motability Operations - covering approximately430,000 leased vehicles for disabled customers.

RAC attends about 110,000 Motability breakdowns per year. Theaverage response time to a breakdown in 2005-2006 was 38 minutes,against a target time of 42 minutes.
Motability is the UK's leading car scheme for disabled people. Itprovides affordable, convenient, trouble-free motoring to disabledcustomers and their families. The scheme is directed and overseenby Motability, a national charity, which also provides financialassistance to customers, who would otherwise be unable to affordthe mobility solution they need, Motability Operations is thecompany that operates the Motability car schemes, under contract toMotability.
In the UK, over 1.7 million disabled people qualify for the higherrate mobility component of disability living allowance and over16,000 qualify for the war pensioners' mobility supplement.Currently, almost 450,000 disabled people have chosen to have theirallowances paid to the scheme to meet the cost of having a car,powered wheelchair or scooter through contract hire or hirepurchase schemes.
Today the scheme purchases over 7% of all new cars, sold in the UK,via a national network of over 4,000 Motability dealers.
