Morley, one of the UK's largest fund managers, has appointed John Botham as head of European equities. John joins Morley from Henderson Global Investors where he was director of pan-European equities. This completes the series of hires that Niall Paul, Morley's head of equities set out on when he refocused the team in December last year.
Morley's head of equities, Niall Paul, said: "John's appointment adds to the talented line-up in Morley's equities team and continues the significant momentum we've had over the last six months.
"That a manager of John's reputation and track record is attracted to Morley is testament of our recent progress and Morley's weight in the industry. We are delighted John is joining us and look forward to him making a significant contribution to the team."
At Morley, John will be running a team responsible for 15 funds with £2.8 billion under management.
At Henderson Global Investors John managed €1.5 billion of continental and pan European equity funds with top quartile performance over ten years. He was previously portfolio manager at Guardian Royal Exchange and had other finance related roles prior to that.
In December 2006, Niall Paul refocused Morley's equities business in order to instill higher conviction and more focused investment parameters within the firm's active equity management teams. Specifically, he created a new Morley Value team, refocused Morley's UK Equity and European Equity teams and moved the firm's active US funds into a quant or index based approach. As part of this refocusing David Lis was promoted to head of UK equities and Rita Dhut was promoted to head of the Morley value team. John's appointment completes that process.
