Norwich Union Healthcare helps intermediaries talk the PMI talk

Article date: 25 June 2007

In response to the perception that PMI is a vast and complicated marketplace, a new, practical guide to Private Medical Insurance (PMI) has been written by independent journalist Rosanna Spero, in partnership with Norwich Union Healthcare, and was launched this month at the AMII (Association of Medical Insurance Intermediaries) Conference, 14 June 2007.

With the continuing media focus on NHS waiting lists and the prohibitive costs of self-funding private medical treatment it has become increasingly important for intermediaries to be able to discuss and advise on PMI products to consumers.

The guide entitled "Healthcare Revealed" aims to help intermediaries enter the PMI market by giving their clients the opportunity to gain an unbiased general view of the market and aid further discussions into the complexities of private medical insurance policies. With consumer perception of PMI as an expensive luxury, Healthcare Revealed will act as a practical resource for insurance intermediaries to discuss the options and benefits that best suit the needs and the pocket of the consumer.

Intermediaries at the conference were introduced to the guide, which:

  • Details how PMI differs from other types of health cover
  • Illustrates the reality of treatment costs
  • Tackles some of the common misconceptions and exclusion issues of private medical insurance
  • Offers advice on how to keep costs down.

Nicole Hockley, head of propositions and marketing at Norwich Union Healthcare, comments: "Healthcare Revealed has been launched to support our current PMI intermediaries and to encourage new intermediaries to add PMI to their product portfolio. The guide gives them the opportunities to discuss private medical insurance cover with consumers.  As the guide has been written by Rosanna Spero, it acts as a straight-talking and simple introduction to the many and varied PMI options, enabling them to more confidently and informatively identify the right product for their clients. This independent view, coupled with the support offered to intermediaries by our Healthcare Bureau means that individual PMI has never been easier to sell."

Healthcare Revealed is available to order on the Norwich Union Healthcare dedicated intermediary website: or by calling the Healthcare Bureau on 0845 3000 649. Calls may be recorded and/or monitored.
