RAC scoops motability Scheme Partner of the year at the Motability Supplier Awards

Article date: 18 April 2008

RAC has been named Scheme Partner of the year by Motability for 2007 - the second time that RAC has won the award.

RAC beat stiff competition from other key Motability partners, including Kwik Fit, Royal & Sun Alliance and British Car Auctions.

Steve Whitmarsh, senior partnership manager at RAC, said: "We are absolutely delighted to win the Motability scheme partner of the year award for the second time, particularly as it comes just twelve months after we renewed our breakdown assistance contract with Motability until 2014.

"In the past year we have attended 140,000 Motability breakdowns and I believe our success stems from the fantastic work of our team to ensure we deliver exceptional roadside service to Motability customers on a consistent basis.

"We have also achieved the highest customer satisfaction scores since the scheme began."

Motability is the largest fleet in Europe with over 480,000 customers and supplies vehicle solutions to recipients of the higher rate disability living allowance in the UK, ensuring that customers can remain mobile and independent.

About Motability
Motability is a national charity, set up on the initiative of the Government in 1977, to assist disabled people with their mobility needs. It directs and oversees the Motability Scheme, which enables disabled people to obtain a car, powered wheelchair or scooter simply by using their government-funded mobility allowances.

In the UK, over 1.7 million disabled people qualify for the Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance and over 16,000 qualify for the War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement. Currently, some 480,000 disabled people have chosen to have their allowances paid to the Scheme to meet the cost of having a car, through contract hire or hire purchase schemes.

Today the Scheme purchases over 5% of all new cars, powered wheelchairs and scooters sold in the UK, via a national network of over 3,800 Motability dealers.
