What will you do when you retire? You may want to see more of your family; travel abroad, perhaps; or just enjoy having plenty of free time. We all have different ideas about retirement and what we'll be doing as we get older.
Whatever your plans are, you'll enjoy more of life if you're fit and healthy. As well as helping you get the most from your pension, we can also help you find peace of mind with health cover options to help you plan for a healthy retirement. Here's an example of two fictional people, making plans for their future in retirement:
'David' and 'Lynne' are looking forward to going on holiday. It's going to be a long one, to celebrate the fact that David has just retired. Like other holidaymakers, David has bought travel insurance and made a note of what to do if anything happens to their luggage: how to claim, who to call, where to go.
"Travel insurance is a sensible thing. It's a small price to pay for peace of mind if things go wrong, and it stops Lynne worrying while we're away. Strangely though, I'm the one that's been more nervous recently. The thing is, I'm not sure how I feel about retirement. When I was sorting out my pension plans, I got used to hearing, 'you're not getting any younger'. But I don't feel old and I don't feel like slowing down or 'taking it easy' at all! We both want to make the most of this free time: do lots and really enjoy ourselves."
Doing routine paperwork for their holiday has made Lynne stop and think. They've never thought twice about protecting their bags for just a couple of weeks. "Perhaps we should protect ourselves, now that there's so much to look forward to? Peace of mind, that's what it's all about. But with a lower income now, I'm not sure how much it would cost…"
'David' and 'Lynne' are examples, they're two fictional people. But like them, you may be worried about the cost of having an insurance policy for something that 'may never happen' - particularly if your income has gone down after giving up work.
The truth is that as our bodies get older, it's harder to cope with illness and injury, and privacy and dignity can become more important when receiving treatment. Taking out health cover can offer valuable peace of mind that you could get fast, private treatment.
We offer different kinds of private health insurance ranging from a policy that helps with the costs of routine healthcare (like dentists' or opticians' fees), to more extensive cover that could include complementary therapies (like chiropody or acupuncture).
If you're not sure how much private health insurance would cost, what it could cover you for, or which type of private health insurance would suit you in retirement, we have a team of friendly experts who can help.
