LNG risk assessments 'have minimised dangers'

Milford Haven Port Authority has said that it has carried out effective risk assessments into whether an energy project in Wales poses as a danger to the public, it has been reported.

There are concerns that ships carrying Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) could shed their load, posing a threat to nearby towns, the Safe Haven group told WalesOnline.

Not only is there a health threat but a strategic one, spokesperson for the organisation Gordon Main said, suggesting that it could affect supplies.

However, a representative of the Milford Haven Port Authority told the news forum that robust safety precautions had been put in place.

He said: "Major releases or collisions between LNG vessels, the ferry or other tankers could occur, but we are confident that we have minimised the risk of them occurring in the first place - which is the essence of risk assessment."

LNG is natural gas that has been converted to liquid for ease of storage and transport and hazards associated with it include flammability and asphyxia.ADNFCR-2134-ID-18968211-ADNFCR
