Fire station makeover 'includes sprinkler system'

A newly refurbished fire station in Flintshire has been installed with a sprinkler system, it has been reported.

The £360,000 makeover of Buckley fire station also included a gas heating system and a modern roofing system, the Wrexham Evening Leader said.

Dr Brian Gibbons, Wales's social justice minister, officially opened the fire station.

Simon Smith, chief fire officer at the station, told the newspaper: "There was a real need to upgrade the station. It involved a substantial investment on behalf of the fire and rescue service and demonstrates our commitment to our firefighters and to the local community."

It was recently reported that Fire Service College at Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire, did not have a sprinkler system installed when a blaze destroyed fire engines worth more than £1 million.

A spokesperson told the Daily Mail that sprinklers had not been fitted because it was deemed that there was not enough risk to human life to justify the expenditure.ADNFCR-2134-ID-19247917-ADNFCR
