A LGV crime hotspot has seen the number of incidents reduced after prevention measures were brought in, a newspaper has said. The Northampton Chronicle and Echo reported that crime has been reduced at Brackmills Industrial Estate, which previously saw a higher number of attacks on LGVs.
Northamptonshire Police force crime prevention manager Mike Franklin said £500,000 has been put into crime prevention measures including designated parking bays, an automated number plate recognition system and CCTV.
"Brackmills was a spot which was in a spiral of decline economically as it had notoriety for road freight crime and we would have criminals travelling from many counties away to target trucks," he told the newspaper.
Funding came from the East Midlands Development Agency and the West Northamptonshire Development Corporation.
The Freight Transport Association previously reported that truck-stop crime in the UK was on the rise, with 793 incidents recorded in the fourth quarter of 2008.
