LGV drivers warned over vehicle defects

Six LGVs were pulled off the road in Cleveland during a joint operation between the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency and Cleveland Police, it has been said.

Random checks were carried out on vehicles during Operation Toxicology and the six LGVs were found to have mechanical defects or missing required equipment, Gazette Live reported.

Four more LGV drivers were dealt with because of their hours behind the wheel, while two truck drivers were given notices to fix defects.

Gary Hatton, acting inspector of the Roads Policing Unit at Cleveland Police, said the area has a high concentration of vehicles which carry dangerous loads.

He told the publication: "We will continue to carry out these operations to ensure that these dangerous loads are carried safely for the benefit of everyone."

Road users and owners of vehicles have a duty of care under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
