New LGV laws used in South Yorkshire

South Yorkshire police traffic officers have began using new powers which allow them to issue on-the-spot fines, it has been reported.

New UK legislation means the officers can also clamp down on LGV drivers that spend too long behind the wheel or who drive overloaded vehicles.

The Sheffield Telegraph stated that the officers will pay particular attention to LGV drivers from abroad who breach UK rules.

Speaking to the newspaper, South Yorkshire chief inspector Andy Male said: "Previously foreign drivers could come into this country, commit a motoring offence for which we'd fine them, but then they'd drive back abroad before paying up."

As well as being able to clamp or tow away vehicles, the officers can also fine those drivers who cannot provide proof of a UK address.

Meanwhile, Sheffield publication Look Local reported that in the past year, child pedestrian accidents have been reduced by 38 per cent across the South Yorkshire city.ADNFCR-2134-ID-19246009-ADNFCR
