ITV weatherman Martyn Davies has spent a day with Norfolk Constabulary to highlight the importance of preparing for the worst when it comes to flooding. The event came as people in Cumbria are still trying to deal with the aftermath of the November floods, which saw many businesses severely disrupted by the heavy waters.
"As a weather forecaster, I have seen and experienced the devastating affects that flooding can have on individuals, families and communities," he said.
While the weather cannot be changed, businesses and individuals can do something to reduce the impact that flooding can have.
As such, Mr Davies has released a DVD called Flooding
are you prepared?, which is sponsored by insurance company Aviva.
Commenting on the DVD, Simon Black, head of flood mapping at Aviva, said that the more people know about the damage dirty flood water can cause then the better.
Properties need to be made resistant and resilient to floods. Aviva Risk Management Solutions advises water-proofing the inside of a property and installing one-way valves into drainage pipes to prevent sewage from backing up.
