Construction company making safety a priority during stadium project

The construction site at the centre of Brighton and Hove Albion's new football ground has been inspected by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), which has found that the firm responsible for the work has taken steps to reduce slips, trips and falls.

Buckingham Group Contracting has gritted surfaces because of the recent cold weather, has made clearing up materials and debris a priority and added extra lighting for better visibility.

Last year slips, trips and falls caused 57 major injuries to employees and led to one death in the city.

Adrian Stammers, group health safety environment and quality manager at Buckingham Group Contracting, said workers are trained and coached to be made aware of the hazards and the safe preventative measures that can be put in place.

"We are very conscious of the fact that most accidents that occur on construction sites can be directly related to slips, trips and falls. Safety is our top priority," he stated.

The HSE has launched a new campaign to target certain sectors regarding slips, trips and falls, including construction, building and plant maintenance and food manufacturing.
