Residents and businesses in Keith will be some of those who will benefit from a new flood early warning scheme funded by the Scottish government. The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) revealed that more than 38 homes and businesses will be able to take advantage of the £1 million system.
Richard Lochhead, the environment secretary, who officially launched the schemes around the north-east of the country earlier this week, said that Keith will be included in the scheme.
He explained that experts at SEPA will be able to send flood warnings "directly to the Keith Kilt School and other properties at risk in the area".
"This will give members of the public vital time to prepare and protect themselves against flooding," Mr Lochhead added.
The flood warning scheme was switched on four days ahead of schedule at the end of last month.
It was rolled out early following the spate of bad weather north of the border, which had increased the risk of flooding.
