Firms employing temporary or migrant workers have been reminded that health and safety regulation still applies to them.Sometimes, businesses of this nature can be confused as to whether they need to follow the same rules as those which employ permanent UK staff, claimed Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inspector Paul Billinger.
But he asserted: "All businesses need to realise that complying with regulations isn't voluntary."
Mr Billinger's comments come after HSE held a safety and health awareness day in Birmingham aimed at businesses, migrants and other vulnerable workers in and around the Handsworth area of the city.
The regulatory body explained that it provided an opportunity to introduce firms to the health and safety clinics on offer at the Nishkam Centre.
"It's important to build good relationships with all communities, which is why events like this are so important," Mr Billinger added.
A study carried out by HSE claimed that migrant workers are more likely to work in sectors or occupations with existing health and safety concerns.
