EA to advise Northampton businesses on how to deal with flooding

Businesses and residents in Northampton will be advised by the Environment Agency (EA) about what action to take to protect their properties from the effects of flooding.

The EA will run two events in the town - on March 11th and March 22nd 2010 - which will include information on how to draw up a food plan if residents become cut off in the event of an emergency.

Area flood risk manager David Hawley said that Northampton's flood defences are some of the best in the UK outside of London.

But he warned that if extreme rainfall was to hit the surrounding area, even the most efficient defences could be overwhelmed, leaving both residents and businesses at risk.

"That is why we are taking part in this event and would urge people to pop along, have a chat with our staff and find out more," he explained.

Last month, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency launched its own flood defence system aimed at helping those in the north-east of the country.

At Aviva Risk Management Solutions we understand that flooding is an increasingly widespread worry. That’s why we have produced guidance for businesses to help manage flood risk.ADNFCR-2134-ID-19659357-ADNFCR
