Businesses have been urged to ensure the security of any of their employees who routinely work in isolation.More than six million people in the UK currently work on their own or without any direct supervision, pointed out Alex Carmichael, technical director at the British Security Industry Association (BSIA).
He said that any responsible employer should consider the health and safety of their lone workers to be a "top priority".
Devices which are designed to keep these employees safe by giving them an emergency response system which is directly connected to the police are one measure which firms can take, Mr Carmichael advised.
He added: "The BSIA and its members have been at the forefront of the drive to raise standards and awareness of lone worker systems."
With this in mind, the organisation has released a new guide for employers regarding safety provision for lone workers.
Members of the BSIA in the security guarding sector employ 75,500 officers and turn over £1.575 billion per year.
