Information on how to take advantage of a new flood warning system will be given to residents of the Scottish town of Huntly. The Aberdeenshire settlement is set to benefit from the £1 million Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) scheme as the nearby River Deveron will be one of the watercourses which it oversees.
SEPA will seek to inform householders in the area about how the service works with a public meeting on March 17th 2010.
An information trailer manned by representatives from the organisation will also be in Huntly two days later.
Spokesman Stewart Prodger urged those in local areas to attend the informative events.
"The aim of any SEPA flood warning scheme is to prevent loss of life and reduce the economic damage caused by floods," he added.
An estimated 2,000 homes and businesses near to the rivers Dee, Don, Deveron and North Esk in the north-east of Scotland will benefit from the flood warning system.
