Motorists told to take action over car crime

Police have advised motorists to take a number of steps in a bid to ensure that they do not become victims of car crime.

Greater Manchester Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Carolyne Drennan urged car owners to remove any valuable items - such as satnavs, mp3 players and laptops - from their autos.

Glove boxes should be left open to illustrate to potential thieves that there is nothing inside them, PCSO Drennan explained.

She went on to state that any marks left by the rubber suckers on satnav holders should be removed from car windscreens.

"Many people do not realise how frustrating having their car broken into can be until it happens to them," she added.

Her recommendations follow on from news that the police department has managed to cut vehicle crime in Chorlton by 14.5 per cent over the last three months.

A number of events will be taking place across Greater Manchester over the coming week aimed at reducing car crime even further.

These include an advice session in Oldham on March 17th 2010, followed by an action day in Chorlton the following day.
