The Environment Agency (EA) has recommended that businesses and residents in Lincoln attend an advice session on what to do in the event of flooding.EA's Flood Incident Management (FIM) team will be in the city on March 19th 2010 to answer questions and raise awareness of the risks posed by rising water.
Furthermore, representatives from the organisation will be engaging in door-to-door interviews with local householders and businesses to determine local levels of understanding about flood risks.
Laura Harrison, community engagement officer for the FIM team, urged people in Lincoln to take advantage of the EA's information sessions.
"We want to encourage people to take steps to prepare so they know what action to take to protect themselves, their families, pets, possessions, homes and businesses," she said.
Earlier this month, the EA updated its flood warning system in the south-east of England.
People in parts of Hertfordshire, Essex and London will now be able to benefit from the new scheme, in which smaller sections of river are covered - making the service more community-focussed.
