About Street to School
We're committed to making a positive difference in the communities in which we work. We're a business committed to the long term – so that what we do today stacks up in the future.
Over the past five years Street to School, our global community development initiative, has made a major investment in improving the lives of more than 872,000 children and seen the issue of street children's rights move to the centre stage of policy at UN level.
In the UK we have been working in partnership with the charity Railway Children to raise awareness about the 100,000 children who run away every year in the UK and often end up alone and at risk on the streets. Railway Children are one of the key UK charities working with these vulnerable children. Through our partnership we have supported nearly 100,000 children before, during and after incidences of running away. Funded key research to further develop models of intervention and raised £2 million to support vulnerable young people and increase services. Our employees have also backed the programme through volunteering and fundraising activity.
Our global Street to School programme and our partnership with Railway Children came to an end in December 2014. We're very proud of what we've achieved and have learnt a huge amount along the way. We will be using these lessons to inform and guide our future work, passing our experiences on to others.
We'll continue to advocate on behalf of street children through our work with the Consortium for Street Children and the UN.
