Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD)

Published: 29 Oct 2018

This legislation, which came into force on 1st October 2018, requires both insurers and intermediaries to review their current practices and implement new processes to ensure they remain compliant. For insurers some of the key requirements are the production of Insurance Product Information Documents (IPIDs), and target market statements. These should be used by intermediaries to help explain the salient points to their customers, both at the initial sale and renewal of the contract, unless the customer has received the IPID previously.

We are also required to explain how this can be distributed (distribution strategy), specifically if there are any restrictions to this. This not only applies to our current products, but also those that we have closed to new business.

For all current products we have included target market statements in the relevant ‘helping you sell pages’ on Healthcare Zone. See the example for Healthier Solutions here.

We have created IPID’s for all our UK domestic consumer and SME company policies. They’re available on documents tab of the relevant product on Healthcare Zone.

There are three new documents covering our Legacy Consumer PMI Products, Legacy Company PMI products and Legacy Cash Plans. Click below to view these -

We are also required to provide you with information explaining how we design and manage our products, as such we have produced a simple PDF that explains this process along with how we define the appropriate target market. Click here to view.

We hope this provides you with the information you need regarding some of our duties under the IDD. If you have any further queries or want to provide feedback on items such as the IPID and target markets please contact your usual healthcare contact.
