As you may already know, many countries in the Gulf region have complex regulations concerning private healthcare and the provision of mandatory medical insurance. Gulf Solutions policies for individual customers are appropriate for those living or working in Bahrain, Jordan, Oman and the United Arab Emirates. For individuals working in any other country in the Gulf region, please refer to our general International Solutions policies.

Why do your clients need a specific Gulf Solutions policy?

Within some countries in the Gulf, it’s necessary to have mandatory medical insurance that’s been provided by a locally licensed insurer. This is why we've collaborated with Bahrain Kuwait Insurance Company, Arab Orient Insurance Company, Oman Qatar Insurance Company, Emirates Insurance Company and NAS Administration Services, to create an exclusive policy that caters for your individual clients, living or working in this region.

Your clients will have the peace of mind that comes with being covered by a policy that's specific to the country they're living in, and enhanced with features that offer reassurance if they're travelling outside the region. To make sure your clients are given as much support as possible, at Aviva we make sure we are fully compliant with changes to local legislation. That’s why we have made some enhancements to our Gulf Solutions policies to comply with changes from the Dubai Health Authority (DHA). To find out more, please go to product updates for individuals.

Gulf Solutions 1 gives your clients access to a level of core cover, which can then be increased by choosing Gulf Solutions 2, 3 or 4. As the level of cover increases, the premium will also increase accordingly.

Depending on your client’s country of residence, they may have additional benefits included as standard within their policy in order to meet local legislation requirements. Gulf Solutions 1 - our core cover

This is a summary of the benefits included in every Gulf Solutions policy as standard. For full details please read the Gulf Solutions Pre-Sale brochure for individuals (PDF 2.57MB). An annual benefit limit of US $8m applies. For clients based in the United Arab Emirates, please refer to the Gulf Solutions for individuals in the UAE policy summary (PDF 2.64MB), provided by Emirates Insurance Company.

In & Day-patient Care
We'll provide cover for accommodation, intensive and high dependency care, nursing care and operating theatre costs. We'll also cover specialists' fees, diagnostic tests, radiology (such as CT, MRI and PET scans), kidney dialysis, internal prostheses and rehabilitation. If your clients require additional treatment prescribed by a specialist whilst in hospital such as treatment by a physiotherapist or a dietician, we'll also cover this.

International Cancer Pledge
We'll cover all the treatment and palliative care, recommended by an oncology specialist. We'll also make things as comfortable as possible after treatment with cover for aftercare that includes a contribution towards prostheses and wigs. Stem cell treatment will not be covered.

Out-patient Care
Our core cover includes the key elements of out-patient treatment that your clients would expect from their Gulf Solutions policy, such as consultations with a specialist, diagnostic tests, radiology (including MRI and CT scans), minor surgery and out-patient treatment such as physiotherapy. We'll also cover the costs for up to 10 speech therapy sessions, on referral by a specialist, following a hospital admission for trauma or stroke.

Additional Benefits
Our home nursing benefit levels provide up to 60 days cover. Should any complications arise during pregnancy, these will also be covered.

Everyday Healthcare
We include many of the benefits your clients would expect from their local GP, such as for prescription medication and vaccinations and up to 20 consultations with a doctor per person per year. Optical benefits are also included.

Condition Management
Acute phases of congenital or hereditary conditions are covered up to US $80,000.

Evacuation & Emergency Assistance
If treatment isn’t available locally, we’ll arrange for your client to be evacuated to the nearest suitable facility even if that’s in a different country, providing it is medically safe to do so. All Gulf Solutions policies also automatically benefit from a range of repatriation and compassionate travel benefits as standard, giving more cover in the event of family emergencies.

Gulf Solutions 2 - adds dental care

In addition to the benefits in Gulf Solutions 1, your clients will also receive up to US $2,400 cover for dental costs.

We'll pay towards the cost of routine dental check ups and dentistry. We'll also pay towards complex dentistry, as well as orthodontic treatment for children. If your clients take out this option their premium will increase.

Gulf Solutions 3 - adds Additional Out-patient & Alternative Therapies

Additional Out-patient & Alternative Therapies
Gulf Solutions 3 provides your clients with all the benefits from Gulf Solutions 1 and 2, plus additional support as an out-patient with benefits such as psychiatric treatment and out-patient rehabilitation.

It also includes alternative therapies such as ayurvedic, Chinese medicine, acupuncture, homeopathy, chiropody, podiatry, osteopathy and chiropractic treatment - for which we'll pay up to US $4,000.

We'll also include up to five speech therapy sessions for children.

If your clients take out this option their premium will increase.

Gulf Solutions 4 - adds Wellbeing

Gulf Solutions 4 provides your clients with all the benefits from Gulf Solutions 1, 2 and 3, plus 'Wellbeing' - a range of benefits to help them stay as healthy as possible.

We'll provide cover towards the cost of routine and other physical examinations, such as mammograms, prostate screenings, and cover for hearing and dietician tests. And we'll also cover vaccinations for leisure in addition to business travel. If your clients take out this option their premium will increase.


By adding maternity to their Gulf Solutions policy, your clients and their families will have peace of mind that they'll be covered for pregnancy or childbirth, including pre- and post-natal care. Our maternity option also provides cover for investigations into the cause of infertility.

In some countries, maternity is a mandatory requirement. If this applies to your client, we will automatically include Maternity cover. When maternity cover is included on the policy, it will increase their premium.

Answering your questions about Gulf Solutions

My client currently has an International Solutions policy and they’re moving to the Gulf - what happens?
If your client is moving to the Gulf, please contact us and we can discuss the best policy for their needs.

Why do you need photos?
Each member of the scheme is issued with a local membership card – which includes a photo. This is mandatory due to local regulations in some Gulf countries. It’s for security and ease if your client needs treatment.

Why do premiums need to be paid directly to the local insurer?
Due to local regulations in the United Arab Emirates, premiums must be paid directly to Emirates Insurance Company (who provide Gulf Solutions in the United Arab Emirates) in Dirhams. For all other countries, premiums have to be paid in US dollars. Your client will be invoiced accordingly.

What documentation do clients receive?
Our local insurance provider will send out a welcome pack with full policy details and their Gulf Solutions membership card(s). We recommend that they keep these cards with them at all times as they will be required when seeking treatment.

Your clients will also have access to a member portal, details of which will be in their member pack.

What is the claims process?
Your client’s Gulf Solutions member guide will provide all the information on how to make a claim.

Members will need to show their Gulf Solutions membership card to get treatment. That's why we recommend that they carry it with them at all times. NAS will then liaise with the medical provider, and in most cases will organise direct settlement of any invoices.
