Passport to health for Southhampton school children

Thousands of children in Southampton are set to receive a freemedical passport to record their medical history, thanks toEastleigh-based private medical insurer Norwich UnionHealthcare.

The passports, which will be distributed this week to 3,500school children, allow them to keep details of any medicaltreatments and condition they have, with the help of their parentsand teachers.

The medical histories built up in the booklet, which is called“My Passport”, record vital information such as anyallergies the children have and any medication they may need. Thereare also sections for monitoring the development of eyes, ears andteeth, as well as height and weight.

It is bright, colourful and child-friendly, so that parents andchildren can enjoy using it together.

The project, developed in partnership with Southampton CityCouncil’s Education division, will see every Year One (6& 7 year old) child attending schools under the control ofSouthampton City Council receive a copy of the passport in the nextfortnight.
