Pollution and the Environment

The subject of pollution and protection of the environment is extremely wide and complex. It can be daunting for the small business. It is not possible to provide detailed guidance on this website however there is a great deal of information available on the Environment Agency's own website.

One of the best resources is the NetRegs facility. NetRegs offers guidance and advice to small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to help them understand the complex range of environmental legislation. NetRegs is free to use and provides a range of services:

  • Sector Guidelines: This guidance describes the practical measures that can be taken to ensure compliance. Information is presented on a sector by sector basis.
  • Management Guidelines: This guidance is general and will apply across all businesses, covering topics such as packaging, oil storage, statutory nuisance etc.
  • Legislation: Information is provided on key legislation, details of where it can be downloaded for detailed study and what legislation is in the pipeline.
  • Resources: Where to go for more help and assistance or for more detailed guidance.
