FAQs about Healthcare Trusts

How does a Healthcare Trust work?

Your company makes payments into a Trust fund controlled by Trustees. Those monies are used to cover eligible medical expenses incurred by members of the Trust. We can administer the Trust fund on behalf of the Trustees in return for an administration fee.

Does my company need to have more than a certain number of employees?

Trusts are more likely to be appropriate if you have approximately 500 employees or more. And, usually, a Healthcare Trust would be particularly attractive if you have a claims fund in excess of £250,000. But with the continued development of Healthcare Trusts and the increase in Insurance Premium Tax, the advantages of this type of funding are becoming increasingly attractive to all sizes of company. Are Trusts more complicated than traditional medical insurance?

Trusts can seem to be complex and you should take independent legal advice, especially if setting up a new Trust. However, we have the expertise to help you every step of the way. You’ll need to appoint a specialist medical benefits administrator, and this is a service we offer as part of our Trust expertise.

Will my employees see any difference?

Your employees will see slightly different paperwork, but the benefits and service they receive can be exactly the same as found in traditional medical insurance.
