Exercise that is fun, enjoyable and realistic can significantly help to empower people, according to one expert.
Charlene Hutsebaut, exercise expert for The De-Stress Diet, said the feeling of being in control when working out is a good confidence booster for many people and can encourage them to keep going and push themselves harder.
She added: "Some people may underestimate their fitness capabilities.
"If they are guided by an educated and empathetic instructor who gives them a chance this can create a feeling of empowerment."
Types of exercise that can help a person feel completely in control of themselves include yoga, tai chi and pilates, the expert suggested.
Ms Hutsebaut also mentioned that these varieties of physical activities can have "grounding" effects and enhance body awareness.
Charlotte Watts, a nutritional therapist, yoga teacher and co-author of The De-Stress Diet, also commented that props are an important part of yoga, as they can offer support, resistance and bridge the gap between a person and the floor during a workout.
