Self-help: Protecting your Hearing

Excessive noise can damage the inner ear and lead to hearing loss. If possible, you should avoid exposure to loud noise. For example, do not listen to loud music, especially on a portable media player. If exposure is unavoidable in your work, always take steps to prevent hearing loss by using ear protectors or earplugs. You should also have regular tests to check that your hearing is not being damaged.

Using a portable media player

When listening to music on a portable media player, you should still be able to hear conversation.

Noise at work

If you are exposed to high noise levels at work, you should use appropriate ear protection to prevent noise-induced hearing loss.
