ISAs

What is the Cash Fund ISA?

It’s a type of cash ISA, so it’s a tax-efficient and low-risk way to invest your money, because the investment is held in cash-based assets and short term money market investments. With a traditional cash ISA, you invest in deposits or interest-bearing accounts. However, the Cash Fund ISA is different because it allows you to invest in a fund which, although it is of a relatively low risk/return nature, means you must be prepared to accept some risk to your capital and income.

  • You won’t pay any UK income tax or capital gains tax on any increase in the value of your savings or on any withdrawals. Although ISAs are tax efficient, the underlying fund may have to pay tax that can not be reclaimed.
  • Your investment goes into the Cash Fund, which is one of the funds available in the Aviva Investors Investment Funds ICVC (Investment Company with Variable Capital) which is a collective investment scheme.
  • You can invest up to a maximum of £5,340 in your Cash Fund ISA, which is the allowance for 2011/2012 tax year. Tax rules may change in the future.
  • A Cash Fund ISA is best regarded as a medium to long-term investment. Bear in mind that the value of the investment can go down as well as up and is not guaranteed. You may get back less than the value of your original investment.

Features & flexibility

With a Cash Fund ISA you can:

  • Invest single and monthly payments, from as little as £50 a month or £500 lump sum;
  • Make withdrawals when you wish, but by doing this it may affect what you get back when you cash in your investment;
  • Change the amounts of your monthly payments;
  • Stop paying into your Cash ISA account at any time, subject to leaving at least £500 in value to keep it open;
  • Cash in your savings at any time, although it should be regarded as a medium to long-term investment;
  • Please remember that the value of investment in funds can go down as well as up and returns are not guaranteed and you may get back less than your original investment;

Is it for me?

The Cash Fund ISA may be suitable if you are looking for a fund with a relatively low risk of losing any of your original capital over the medium to long term. However, the value of investments in the fund and the income from them can fluctuate. The relatively low risk nature of the fund means that the prospects for high capital growth or income are limited.

To be eligible to invest in the Cash Fund ISA, you need to be aged 18 or over and resident in the UK. Read our Simplified Prospectus and ISA Terms & Conditions (PDF 371KB).
