What is multi car insurance?
It’s a way of covering all your cars and vans at the same address, under one policy. Cover starts and renews on the same day for each vehicle, and you’ll just pay one premium – giving you a little less admin.

Get in touch with us if you’d like to add another vehicle to your existing multi car policy.
How does multi car insurance work?
There are a few different ways we’ll set up your policy, depending on your situation.
- Add a second vehicle to your existing car cover and we’ll automatically start a multi car policy.
- If you have other cars or vans in your household, you can add each one when they come up for renewal.
- You can let us know which cars you want to add at any time. We’ll automatically add them to the multi car policy when they’re up for renewal. That way we’ll only charge you for the months they’re covered for.
- On the first car’s renewal date, all additional vehicles and drivers will renew on this date too.
What does Aviva Signature multi car insurance cover?
We offer two types of cover, comprehensive and third party, fire and theft. Third party, fire and theft is our minimum level of cover. Find out more about third party, fire and theft. We can't cover everything, but here's an overview of how much protection comprehensive cover gives you.
We’d also suggest you make sure you’re happy with what’s not covered by reading our motor insurance policy wording (PDF 233KB).
What’s covered by our comprehensive cover
- Loss or damage
Money towards a new car if someone steals yours, or we’ll arrange and pay for repairs if they’re needed after an accident or fire. The amount paid will be dependent on the market value of your vehicle. - What you owe others
If you injure someone, damage their vehicle or property in an accident, we’ll pay to put it right. - Uninsured driver cover
You won’t lose your No Claim Discount if you’re hit by an uninsured driver and it wasn’t your fault. We’ll also refund any excess you’ve had to pay. You’ll need to give us the details of the other vehicle and driver. - Vehicle recovery
If your vehicle's in no shape to drive after an accident or fire, we’ll deliver it to one of our approved garages. We’ll take you and your passengers home, get you where you’re going, or pay up to £500 towards the cost of an overnight stay or public transport. Geographical restrictions apply. - Driving other cars
We’ll cover you to drive someone else’s car if you’re 25 or over at the start of the policy, you’re the vehicle policyholder, and the vehicle owner has given you express consent. We’ll cover third party costs but not repairs to the vehicle. Subject to eligibility criteria. - Legal costs
We’ll contribute towards legal expenses resulting from an accident where you are found to be legally liable. - Motor injury protection
Cover for you, your partner or named drivers in case of serious injury or death from a road accident. £5,000 per person, per policy year. - Individual No Claim Discount
Build up a discount for each vehicle you insure on your policy when you steer clear of claims. - Hang on to your No Claim Discount
We won’t reduce your No Claim Discount if you make a claim for loss or damage that wasn’t your fault – such as incidents involving potholes, severe weather, flooding or animals.
What’s not covered
- Electrical breakdown
Including problems with the on-board computers – as well as electrical components. - Tyres
Any punctures, cuts or bursts – including those caused by braking. - Resale value
We can’t cover you for any loss in value of your car after repair.

Multi Car Insurance FAQs
What level of Aviva Signature multi car insurance cover is right for you?
We offer two types of Aviva Signature car insurance cover. We've kept it simple. You can choose between comprehensive or third party, fire and theft cover.
Comprehensive car insurance
Comprehensive cover is a level of car insurance that covers you for more than just fire or theft, it will also cover you for accidental damage as well. With comprehensive cover, you also have additional benefits, and the option to explore additional add-ons.
Third party, fire and theft insurance
Third party, fire and theft is our minimum level of cover. It's there if you injure another person, or cause damage to their car or property. It also covers theft and fire damage to your vehicle.
For more information on what is and isn't covered by Third Party, Fire and Theft insurance, download our motor insurance policy wording (PDF 369KB).
Can I get multi car discount on any Aviva car insurance policy?
You can only use the 10% discount with policies you’ve bought directly with Aviva. But this doesn't apply to Aviva Motor Insurance policies (Aviva, Aviva Gold and Aviva Platinum) or Aviva Zero car insurance.
You can’t use the multi car discount on top of any other discounts, like our multi-product holder discounts.
Can I add electric cars to multi car insurance?
Yes, electric cars can be added to Aviva Signature multi car insurance policies.
Will I be able to drive all vehicles on the policy?
The answer is most likely yes, subject to underwriting, if you're the main policyholder (sometimes known as the principal policyholder), who took out the insurance for each one.
For every car or van, the principal policyholder can name a separate vehicle policyholder who drives it most often and benefits from the no claim discount. You can add named drivers for any of the vehicles too.
Being a vehicle policyholder or a named driver on one vehicle doesn’t mean you can drive another vehicle on the same multi car policy. To be certain, a quick check of your policy documents will show who’s covered to drive each car or van.
Do all the vehicles need to be at the same address?
Yes, the vehicles (up to five) should all be registered at the same address, which is where they should normally be kept. If this isn't the case for any vehicle, it won't be eligible for cover under the policy, or for the multi car discount.
If another car on the policy has a crash, will it affect my no claim discount?
No. When the no claim discount is in your name for two vehicles under your multi car policy, losing that discount for one car won’t affect the discount for another.
What happens at renewal?
We'll email or post you a renewal invitation around 30 days before your cover ends. You'll get a price for all the cars on the policy for the year ahead, and they'll all renew on the same day.
The renewal price you receive will include your multi car discount.
Can I add a named driver to my multi car policy?
Yes, you can add a named driver to any vehicle covered under a multi car policy with us.
