Cover around the world
To make life easy, we've kept our policy simple. Choose between two comprehensive areas:
- Worldwide cover
- Worldwide cover excluding the USA and Caribbean
If your employees will be living in the Netherlands, under Dutch law, they are normally required to have Dutch national health insurance. This cover has to be provided by a Dutch insurer and will give them comprehensive medical cover for treatment in the Netherlands. With that in mind, from 1 March 2015 we are collaborating with OZF Achmea, who are part of the Achmea group, one of the leading Dutch healthcare insurers. This means your employees can be covered by a local Dutch insurer, and also benefit from the cover provided by International Solutions if they travel outside the Netherlands – at a discounted rate. Living and working in the Gulf
Healthcare regulations are relatively complex in the Gulf, which means International Private Medical Insurance (IPMI) policies often have to be provided by a locally licensed insurance provider. If you need cover for employees working in the Gulf region then you'll need our specialist policy, Gulf Solutions, which provides cover for employees based in Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. Gulf Solutions also covers employees in Bahrain and Jordan for new and renewing policies from 1 March 2015.
Changes to regulations in the UAE (excluding Abu Dhabi)
From 1 January 2015, the Dubai Health Authority introduced new regulations that apply to new policies, and for renewing policies on a phased basis. Gulf Solutions is compliant with the new regulations. For more information, visit What's covered on Gulf Solutions.
These benefits are included in every International Solutions policy as standard, with an annual overall benefit limit of £5m per member.
In & Day-patient Care
We'll provide cover for accommodation, intensive and high dependency care, nursing care and operating theatre costs.
We'll also cover specialists' fees, diagnostic tests, radiology (such as CT, MRI and PET scans), kidney dialysis, internal prostheses and rehabilitation. If you require additional treatment prescribed by a specialist whilst in hospital, such as treatment by a physiotherapist or a dietician, we'll also cover this. International Cancer Pledge
We'll cover all the treatment and palliative care recommended by an oncology specialist. We'll also make things as comfortable as possible after treatment with cover for aftercare that includes a contribution towards prostheses and wigs. Please note, stem cell treatment will not be covered.
Our core cover includes the key elements of out-patient treatment that your employees would expect from their International Solutions policy, such as consultations with a specialist, diagnostic tests (including MRI and CT scans), minor surgery and out-patient treatment such as physiotherapy. We also now cover the costs for up to 10 speech therapy sessions, referred by a specialist following a hospital admission for trauma or stroke. Complications of pregnancy and newborn cover are covered as standard and our home nursing benefit levels run for 60 days.
We include many of the benefits employees expect from their local GP, such as prescription medication and vaccinations and up to 20 consultations with a doctor per person per year.
Optical benefits are included and we'll cover routine sight examinations and contribute towards the cost of glasses and contact lenses. This benefit will also cover other GP referred treatments, such as a visit to see a physiotherapist and we also offer cover towards hormone replacement therapy (benefit limits apply).
Acute phases of chronic or congenital conditions are covered up to £50,000 and treatment for HIV and AIDS is covered up to £10,000.
Evacuation & Emergency Assistance
If treatment isn't available locally, we'll arrange for your employees' evacuation to the nearest facility, even if that's in a different country, providing it is medically safe to do so.
Options to enhance your cover
If you select any of these additional benefits your premiums will increase.
We offer two options, Maternity and Maternity Plus. These provide cover for pregnancy and childbirth (pre and post-natal care) and newborn cover. We also provide cover for investigations into the cause of infertility. For more information about our Maternity cover, please see our Company International Solutions brochure (PDF 3.41MB).
Choose between Dental and Dental Plus – two levels of cover mean you can choose the right level of dental cover for your employees and their families. We offer 100% reimbursement of costs up to specified limits.
Routine dental check ups, X-rays and fillings are included and we'll also pay towards non-routine dentistry such as porcelain crowns and caps, extractions and dental surgery, as well as orthodontic treatment for children.
Additional Out-patient & Alternative Therapies
With this option, your employees can access extra support such as psychiatric treatment and out-patient rehabilitation to help them recover after illness or injury.
They'll have cover for up to five speech therapy sessions for children named on the policy and our alternative therapy cover includes ayurvedic medicine, acupuncture, Chinese and homeopathic medicine. Please note: this option cannot be chosen if the Essential Out-patient option is selected.
Repatriation & Compassionate Travel
As an enhancement, our Repatriation & Compassionate Travel option can be added to provide an alternative to evacuation, as well as providing your employees with more extensive cover in the event of a family emergency. This means that your employees will benefit from extra cover to help towards travel and accommodation costs for their spouse, partner or family if needed.
There's more to International Solutions than simply providing high quality care if things go wrong. Our Wellbeing option helps employees stay healthy while they're overseas. It includes cover towards the cost of routine examinations, such as mammograms, prostate screenings, hearing tests and dietician tests. Better still, it covers vaccinations for leisure purposes as well as for business travel.
Options to reduce your costs
If any of these options are selected your cover will reduce.
Add an Excess
You can reduce your premium by adding an excess to your cover. The excess will apply for out-patient treatment included within the treatment as an Out-patient element of core cover, the Essential Out-patient option and the Additional Out-patient and Alternative Therapies option. With a £100 excess for example, members would be responsible for paying the first £100 of any out-patient costs incurred. This would only apply once per person per policy year.
Essential Everyday Healthcare
With this option, we'll still provide some Everyday Healthcare benefits such as consultations with a GP, but other benefits – such as optical cover or GP referred physiotherapy – would be removed.
Removing Everyday Healthcare
If you're confident that local healthcare facilities would be enough to meet your employees' needs, you could remove Everyday Healthcare cover from your policy.
You could reduce the level of out-patient cover, to give a maximum benefit of £3,000. Cancer treatment, radiotherapy or chemotherapy and CT, MRI and PET scans would still be covered in full.
What else do you need to know?
Worldwide cover limits
With Worldwide cover excluding the USA and Caribbean, members will still have up to 60 days emergency cover for holidays or business trips in the USA and Caribbean.
In the Gulf, healthcare regulations are more complex. So we've worked with local providers to create policies that are appropriate to the territory in which employees are living or working. Read more about Gulf Solutions.
Our Cancer Pledge
We understand how important it is to provide extensive cover and support at every stage of cancer treatment. Our cancer pledge means we'll cover the treatment and palliative care members need as recommended by an oncology specialist. We also want to make things as comfortable as possible following treatment, so we'll provide cover for aftercare, including money towards the cost of prostheses and wigs. Please be aware that stem cell treatment will not be covered.
Most private medical insurance products approve claims for short-term conditions (often referred to as being "acute"). But with International Solutions, providing you don't select the Essential Everyday Healthcare option, or choose to remove Everyday Healthcare cover, your members will have cover for the routine maintenance of longer term chronic conditions – up to £20,000 per year.
There are three types of underwriting that can be used for your International Solutions policy. Schemes with fewer than 10 members include Full Medical Underwriting as standard and schemes with over 20 members include Medical History Disregarded as the standard option. If you are switching from another provider then we can accept the same medical exclusions as they applied for each of your members through our Continued Medical Exclusions underwriting option. All three of these options are explained below:
- Full Medical Underwriting
This means that we ask your employees about their past health. Any pre-existing medical conditions and related conditions will be excluded unless we agree to accept them.
- Medical History Disregarded
This means that we do not apply any personal medical exclusions as a result of pre-existing conditions.
- Continued Medical Exclusions
If you are transferring your employees from another recognised international insurer with equivalent cover, we may accept the same personal medical exclusions, if any, that were applied to your previous scheme. Current certificates from your existing insurer will need to be supplied, and the ‘switch' section of the International Solutions application form must be completed. Continued Medical Exclusion terms may not be offered in some circumstances. Please note: if your previous insurer loaded your premium instead of excluding conditions, your employees may need to be fully medically underwritten.
What's not covered?
This is a summary of the conditions that aren't covered by International Solutions
- alcoholism, alcohol abuse, drug abuse, solvent abuse and other addictive conditions
- birth control
- cosmetic treatment (except following an accident or surgery for cancer)
- developmental delay of children such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
- dialysis as part of long term treatment of a chronic condition
- experimental treatment (limited benefit may be available)
- genetic conditions
- infertility treatment
- nursing home care
- professional sports injuries
- psycho-geriatric conditions
- self-inflicted injury
- sexually transmitted disease (except treatment for HIV/ AIDS)
- sleep disorders and sleep problems
- stem cell transplants
- treatment of warts or verrucas
- treatment received in health hydros
- treatment required as a result of war, terrorism or contamination by radioactivity or chemicals
- treatment required if it is needed after travelling against medical advice and it is related to the illness or injury for which the advice was given
- weight loss surgery
